Melrose MA

Melrose, located 7 miles north of Boston, is a vibrant suburban community known for her beautiful and significant Victorian architecture. Named after Melrose Scotland, the area resembled the hills and geography of that region.

Melrose is unique as there are no state highways that traverse the town. As such, Melrose is a city that once found, reveals her beautiful character and personality to the visitor.

First explored in the early 1600's, Melrose began to grow as a Boston suburb with the arrival of the Boston & Maine in 1845. Three stations were constructed at Wyoming, Cedar Park and The Highlands. Today, commuter rail at all three stations provides convenient and fast access to Boston.

Downtown Melrose is vibrant, thriving and walkable. The Victorian architecture is preserved and beautiful. Restaurants attract regulars such as Stern's and Hill, Mexico Lindo, Absolutely Fabulous and Turner's Fish House. The YMCA is conveniently located downtown as well as quaint shops, banks, florists, gift shops and more.

Another benefit Melrose offers her citizens is the Middlesex Fells Reservation. The opportunities for hiking and exploring the woods are cherished by many.

If you love Victorian architecture, explore the neighborhoods of Cedar Park, the Highlands, Wyoming Hill and more. Take a drive on Bellevue Avenue, known locally as Doctor's Row, and see examples of architecture including Victorian to Colonial Revival. The eastside neighborhoods offer great side and center entry Colonials from the 1920's and 30's. If you have a preference for a special home, you will likely find it in Melrose.
